Apple A8X chip photos leaks online ahead of the iPad Air 2 event
The anticipated Apple iPad Air 2 will be officially announced this Thursday and rumors have it that the device will be powered by an Apple A8X chip. Today, some brand new photos said to be of the SoC have surfaced online, giving more credibility to this rumor.
In addition to the full logic board, some images of other parts of the device such as its glass screen cover, audio control components and the Home button which comes with TouchID have also been snapped. The new A8X variant of Apple's chip, same as the A5X and A6X before it.The slate is expected to have better GPU performance.
This is also an indication that Apple could be bumping their display resolution of the upcoming iPad Air 2 to the so called Retina HD. Some evidence of this improvement has been discovered in the latest iOS 8.1 Beta, which showed user interface elements designated as "3x-ipad".
While the specific details of the resolution in questions are not yet known, still it is very possible that the company is going to ship a sharper display than the current 2048 x 1536 pixel one. However, a more GPU horsewpoer is not the only thing the A8X chip is expected to bring on.It is expected that the RAM is also increased go 2GB, which should enable much heavier multitasking.
